CATBALOGAN CITY – As a result of a study, Samar State University (SSU) held its first synchronized College Days for three days, starting on September 12, 2018.
SSU’s colleges and external campuses simultaneously conducted athletic, cultural and literary competitions during the College Days.
“There were a lot of hours wasted and a lot of classes sacrificed because some of the faculty are also teaching in other colleges,” shared Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, vice-president for Academic Affairs (VPAA), in an interview on synchronizing the College Days.
“So if it is separately done, those teachers who also teach in other colleges are affected,” Dr. Gomba reasoned.
To prevent these findings of a study conducted by the VPAA and colleagues, all college days were scheduled on the same dates.
This also gave an equal preparation time for all colleges and campuses, said Dr. Gomba.
Ompong cuts College Days
The first synchronized College Days was cut and postponed due to Typhoon Ompong.
As advised by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC), the city mayor of Catbalogan, Hon. Stephany Uy-Tan, issued Executive Order No. 21 to suspend all public and private classes in all levels from September 13 to 14.
This suspension delayed the College Days, moving it to the following week on different dates as decided by each college and approved by the university president, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso.
