SSU inks agreement with DILG, NYC, LYDO, LLG for SK Training

Catbalogan City – In the pursuit of the National Youth Commission (NYC), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Local Youth Development Office (LYDO), and League of Local Government (LLG) to revive the purpose of Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), they forged partnership with Samar State University through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing last April 26 at the President’s Office.

The MOA signing was attended by the University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso; Mr. Ronnie T. Velasco, Focal Person of SSU-SK Mandatory Training; Dr. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, Director of Research Center for Social Issues; Ms. Jocelyn Macapanas, Coordinator for Extension Services; and representatives from the different agencies.

Sangguniang Kabataan was created with the purpose of training the youth to be the partner in the national development. However, during its implementation, there were reported cases of corruptions and political dynasties resulting to its postponement in 2013 and 2016. To address these problems, these agencies tapped Samar State University as service provider in conducting the SK mandatory training and its continuing program.

These agencies believe that SSU could provide quality training and transformation to the SK officials.

The training is proposed to be conducted on May 17-29 with a total of 4,192 expected participants from the 524 Barangays in the 2nd District of Samar.
