CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) honored its graduands of the upcoming 90th Commencement Exercises through a series of Bestowal of Kamagi, held at the SSU Maceda Gymnasium. The ceremonial bestowal has been taking place over the past two weeks, with each college holding its rites separately.
The College of Education (CoEd) commenced the series on June 6, 2025, followed by the College of Engineering (CoEng) and the College of Industrial Technology (CIT) on June 9. The College of Nursing and Health Science (CONHS) and Paranas Campus (SSU-PC) honored its graduands on June 10, while the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and Merces Campus (SSU-MC) will conclude the ceremonies today, June 11.
During the ceremonial bestowal of CoEng, SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia expressed his esteem and advice to the graduands.
“Just imagine with all of you . . . more minds . . . more hearts and hands in addition to the existing noble laborers—noble workers. What a powerful force we are—you are. You can be the next future. So, dear graduating students, as you wear the Kamagi with honor and pride, please remember to carry forward the knowledge and learning gained from this institution and apply them in every aspect of your life. Dedicate yourself to a commitment of service,” Dr. Palencia remarked.
The bestowal rites symbolize the university’s recognition of its students’ years perseverance and dedication on their years-long academic pursuits. The ceremonial is carried out through a Bestowal of the Honor Sash, featuring the university’s official academic regalia, the Kamagi, being vested unto graduands by their parents or guardians, and assisted by the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Felisa Gomba, and respective College Deans and officials.
SSU’s 90th Commencement Exercises will be held on June 18 and 19, 2025 at the SSU Maceda Gymnasium with the theme, “SSU Graduates: Marching Ahead to Leadership, Adaptability, Creative Action, and Sustainability.”
