CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Samar State University (SSU), through the Quality Assurance (QA) Office, is currently training 30 institutional auditors through an ISO Internal Auditor’s Training taking place today, January 13, at the SSU Convention Center, Catbalogan City. The activity, which will run until January 15, 2025 is part of the university’s ongoing efforts on Internal Quality Audits (IQA) to continuously meet the standards and practices of ISO 9001:2015.
In his Welcome Remarks, SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia reminded all attendees of the University’s mandates to deliver excellent and quality service.
“This workshop is highly relevant as we embrace the culture of learning, innovation, and development in the University . . . [As auditors] we need to be objective, honest, and [have] commitment for accountability whenever we assess . . . There is no finish line in quality,” President Palencia emphasized.
Mr. Kevin T. Castillon, Operations Head and Training Expert of ASC Management System Consultancy, ISO Auditor, and Registered Tutor of AJA Academy, will serve as the sole resource speaker of the three-day activity where he will talk about risk-based internal auditing, audit phases, how to prepare audit programs, audit itinerary, audit checklists and audit reports, follow-up audits, and conduct simulation audit.
This training-workshop was administered to address the University’s areas for improvement along quality assurance that was noted during the 2023 ISO Surveillance Visit. Given SSU’s insufficient number of auditors to cover all areas requiring auditing, the QA Office, led by Dir. Jake Boy D. Carbonquillo, took the initiative to train a new set of auditors and enhance the University’s IQA activities for future external visits.
