PARANAS, SAMAR – Samar State University Paranas Campus (SSU-PC), in collaboration with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Cantaguic, Paranas (Wright), Samar, launched the Project LETRA (Literacy Enhancement through Reading, Writing and Arithmetic) through a seminar-workshop held on May 15, 2024, at Brgy. Cantaguic, Paranas, Samar.
Project LETRA, an SSU-funded extension program under the Center for Lifelong Learning (CeLL), is a significant step towards improving the literacy level of local communities in Samar. The primary goal of the program is to boost the community members’ educational outcomes and empower them through a culture of continuous learning. Specifically, it aims to increase the literacy skills of students, and strengthen their foundational competencies on reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.
The seminar-workshop covered an orientation on Project LETRA’s goals, objectives, and work plan. The activity also featured a one-on-one assigning of student-teachers who will work closely with the community to implement literacy programs and provide hands-on support to learners.
The event concluded with a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Brgy. Cantaguic and SSU which were represented by Barangay Chairman Mr. Joey B. Dacutanan and SSU-PC Campus Director and Head of Instruction, Dr. Lourdes C. Delmonte and Mr. Ferdinand P. Once, respectively.
