CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Samar State University (SSU), through the Research and Extension Services Office, led the Strategic Planning Workshop for Daram Municipality from May 23 to 24, 2024, at the SSU-RIC Audio Visual Technology Room (AVTR), Catbalogan City, Samar.
The activity was conducted in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Daram, Samar, with the theme “Harnessing the Blue Ocean Economy for Sustainable Development,” to mark the commencement of the Blue Ocean Project (Phase 1) which focuses on problem scanning and strategic thinking, and foundation setting for Daram’s future economic growth.
The workshop featured insightful presentations by esteemed experts. Prof. Ronald L. Orale from the SSU College of Engineering shared his expertise on identifying blue ocean opportunities for Daram. Additionally, Mr. Raul Reyes, LGU Daram’s Consultant and Storyteller, provided an introduction to the Blue Ocean Economy, emphasizing its potential to transform the municipality’s economic landscape.
Also highlighted in the event was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between SSU and Daram-LGU which was graced by SSU University President, Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, Daram Municipal Mayor, Hon. Philip Martin L. Astorga, Daram’s Vice Mayor Hon. Lucia L. Astorga, and SSU’s Vice President for Research and Extension Services, Engr. Mirador G. Labrador.
Once implemented, the project will amplify the vast potential of the Blue Ocean Economy which can serve as a model for other municipalities seeking to innovate and develop their own economic strategies.
