CATBALOGAN CITY─ To set a mark for the implementation of Samar State University (SSU) Bamboo Program that will promote sustainable development and uplift rural communities, the Department of Science and Technology through its Community Empowerment thru Science & Technology (CEST) program held a turn-over ceremony of fund to the University on August 2 (23) at the SSU Convention Center, Board Room.
Attended by DOST CEST staff Ms. Emelyn A. Maglahus and Engr. Rosella L. Gopo; and SSU President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Program Leader Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, and the project team, the ceremony proved a strong partnership between the two agencies aiming to drive research, innovation, and community development in the region.
This 1.3M Bamboo Program is an outgrowth of the Dr. Cardoso’s participation in the CHED-Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Global Academic Leadership Program (GALP) in 2021 and together with Dr. Gomba, crafted the SSU Bamboo Program duly approved by the SSU Board of Regents through BOR Resolution No. 60, series of 2021. It is dedicated to empower the community through Science and Technology method of quality bamboo propagation and plantation management as it covers four (4) components of CEST including Environmental Protection and Conservation; Economic Development; Human Resource Development; and DRRM and Climate Change Adaptation.
