Stakeholders join SSU-CFARRD’s Mangrove Reforestation Workshop

CATBALOGAN CITY – Twenty-five (25) Barangay/Village Officials and Members of the Women’s Organization and Fisherfolks Association of Barangay Pangdan Sitio Mombon, Bagongon and Mombon Sierra Island, Catbalogan City attended the Community-Based Mangrove Reforestation: Multi-Stakeholder Planning Workshop on March 17 (22) at Alegro Hotel.

The activity was spearheaded by Samar State University-Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Research and Development (CFARRD) led by its Director Dr. Diana Shane Balindo in partnership with the Peoples Initiative for Learning and Community Development (PILCD), Arbeiter Samariter Bund (ASB) and with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The activity primarily aimed to converse and create a plan with the stakeholders to improve, conserve, and protect marine biodiversity through Mangrove Reforestation.

This is one of the key steps the Center initiated to increase awareness of the significance of mangroves in minimizing tsunami and storm surge damage.
