CATBALOGAN CITY─ Greatness for many is reaching the mountaintop of successes, but for the Academic Affairs’ Vice President of Samar State University (SSU), greatness is found in serving others.
Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, ‘Fely’ as most of her friends call her, figured out that Engineering was her first love and it bore her the distinction as Magna Cum Laude at Divine Word University when she graduated the degree of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE). She proceeded with her Masters Degree of Science in Environmental Engineering at the University of the Philippines-Diliman. And shortly after, she finished a Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management studies at Cebu Technological University.
Her professional path paved way for doors of opportunities along Engineering and Research as she became the Head of the Department of Engineering, Head of the Research and Development and EMIS, Vice President for Planning, Research and Extension, and the Acting Dean of the College of Graduate Studies. And so it did not come as a surprise for her when she became what she is now, the only Professor VI in the University.
Having Jesus Christ as her inspiration in leadership, Dr. Gomba treats her post not as a position but as a service to mankind. To her, just like Jesus, leadership is working with a purpose, leading with vision, and living with integrity.
Yet despite all the roles she has, she best takes pride of being a mother. Her best alias is and will always be ‘Nanay’ to her unico hijo, Dexter. And albeit the heights of success she already reached, her best measure of it are the fifteen (15) working students she helped to graduate and build their own careers and successes.
To Dr. Gomba, there’s more to life than her positions, that is, serving mankind.
