“As journalists, we are the watchdogs of the society. Do not be biased. We should always be impartial…,” said Mrs. Adelina O. Carreno Wednesday, October 12 (16).
Joan Baclay, University Radio In-charge, believes to be a watchdog as one her social responsibilities.
“Yes, I think I am a watchdog of the society in the sense that I speak the truth…,” College of Arts and Sciences instructor Miss Arianne Rose Tafalla also agreed.
Carreno, on the standpoint of the institution asserted to educate the people the right way as the training is sought by the University.
“Do research before you write, know the audience,” she added and posted the questions “Ano ba talaga ang idiosyncrasies nila (What is really their idiosyncrasies?)”, “Ano ba talaga ang listening pattern nila? (What is really their listening pattern?)”

Basic Radio Operations and Programming (BROP) seminar-workshop inaugurates suitable talent discoveries, hones and capacitates SSU “extension communicators to conceptualize, plan and produce edutainment programs”.
Edutainment as explained by Mrs. Carreno is both an educational and entertaining programs for DYSY 102.9 to serve as an alternative source of well-researched and well-thought off information.
‘We are here how to learn how to package the program as an institution,” said Carreno.

SSU extension communicators produced “Istoryha Hadto Anay, Hasta Yana (Story Now and Then)” program recollecting Samar culture in the arts, songs, especially stories which sometimes die out or forgotten by new generation.
The program targets children from 4-18 years old every Saturday, 8PM as an output for objective 2 of BROP ‘to formulate radio programs…’
It is an output of “Tell a Tale” exercise during Day 2 Tuesday of BROP and made into one program, edited, mixed, and produced.
-Empowered SSU producers-
Antonieto “BTX” Betanzor remained in awe of his learning in the technical aspects of BROP, how to produce educational program to cater the young generation and Samarnon as a whole.
Asked if BROP equipped the producers, Pamerel Odal BSEd 3D Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student positively commented having learned many inputs on broadcasting and voice editing in a short time.
“Yes! Kasi marami akong natutunan na mga bagay sa pagiging efficient and excellent producer (Because I learned a lot of things in being an efficient and excellent producer.)” BSED 3D TLE Teodoro Navidad, Jr. said.
Shaira Mendiola, College of Arts and Sciences BS Information Technology student and Hannaliz Kalaw Bachelor of Elementary Education student agreed.
“This is a good start as an amateur. As a producer, use all the tools to come up with an excellent production.” Carreno wrapped up.
