SSU has once again demonstrated its growing commitment to sustainability and social responsibility. In the recently released Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026, SSU made a significant leap, advancing to the Global Top 801-1000 bracket among institutions worldwide. This marks a notable improvement from last year’s Top 1001-1500 placement, making the achievement even more meaningful for the SSU community.

One standout success was in SDG 1: No Poverty, where SSU jumped into the 101-200 rank bracket out of 931 institutions, a substantial improvement from its 301-400 bracket last year. This leap reflects the university’s strengthening initiatives in reducing poverty, supporting inclusive education, and uplifting communities

Equally impressive was SSU’s performance in SDG 5: Gender Equality. The university climbed from the 601-800 bracket last year to the 201-300 bracket in 2026 among 1,095 institutions. This significant improvement underscores SSU’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment, promoting equal opportunities, and empowering individuals regardless of gender.

In SDG 14: Life Below Water, SSU also posted a remarkable advancement, moving from the 401-600 bracket in 2025 to the 201-300 bracket in 2026 out of 561 participating institutions. The improvement highlights the university’s growing contributions to marine conservation, environmental stewardship, and sustainable management of aquatic resources.

Meanwhile, SSU has also strengthened its collaborations in SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, making one of its biggest improvements by moving up from the 1001-1500 bracket to the 601-800 bracket among 1,610 institutions. This progress reflects the university’s strong and ever-expanding partnerships – locally, nationally, and globally – in pursuing sustainable development and creating lasting change.

The university’s upward movement across all participating SDGs demonstrates that its sustainability efforts are not confined to a single area but are being integrated throughout its academic, research, extension, and governance functions, aligning its programs, policies, initiatives, and community engagement activities with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

As sustainability continues to be a defining measure of institutional excellence worldwide, SSU’s latest performance in the Times Higher Education Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026 serves as a testament to its unwavering dedication to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and creating lasting positive impact for communities, the environment, and future generations.

For 2026, the rankings evaluated 1,603 universities from 116 countries and territories, measuring performance across 17 individual SDGs and an overall institutional ranking. Amid growing global competition, SSU distinguished itself by recording improvements across all the SDG categories in which it participated.
