SSU expands global pathways through Manaaki New Zealand Postgraduate Scholarship Forum

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) strengthened its commitment to global academic engagement as it hosted the Manaaki New Zealand Postgraduate Scholarship Forum 2026 on February 26, 2026, at the CAS Audio-Visual Center (AVC).

The forum gathered SSU personnel and stakeholders for an in-depth orientation on the prestigious Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme, an initiative of the New Zealand Government that supports postgraduate studies for international scholars.

University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia delivered the welcome remarks, underscoring the University’s thrust toward internationalization and academic excellence. An inspiring testimonial followed from Engr. Chee Ann Candido, a New Zealand scholarship postgraduate alumna, who shared her academic journey and how the scholarship shaped her professional growth and global perspective.

Representing the New Zealand Embassy in Manila, Dyan Mabunga presented the details of the Manaaki New Zealand Scholarship Programme, outlining eligibility requirements, priority fields, and the transformative impact of the program on scholars and their home institutions. The presentation was followed by an open forum.

In closing, Dr. Elmer A. Irene, Director for International Affairs, reiterated SSU’s continued efforts to build international linkages and empower its academic community to pursue global learning opportunities.
