SSU leads community seminar on teenage pregnancy, family planning in Catbalogan City

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Young mothers and their partners gathered at the Burak Barangay Hall on February 4, 2026, for a Seminar on Teenage Pregnancy and Family Planning, spearheaded by Samar State University’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) in https://telefilmsgroup.com/empresa/ collaboration with the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS). The initiative was aimed at promoting informed decision-making, maternal health, and responsible parenthood among young families in the community.

SSU’s health professionals delivered a series of focused lectures covering the critical stages of maternal care. Assoc. Prof. Begonia Yboa, faculty member at the College of Nursing and Health Sciences (CONHS) and Assoc. Prof. Dolores Arteche, CONHS Dean, led the session on prenatal care, stressing the importance of early checkups, nutrition, and maternal well-being.

Furthermore, the intrapartum care lecture was presented by Asst. Prof. Lawrence Quincy Quiano and Ms. Mary Ann Apacible, who  discussed safe childbirth practices at the labor and delivery stages. Meanwhile, Asst. Prof. Jeanette Sabio and Mr. Mark Cabidog tackled postpartum care, focusing on recovery, mental health, and family planning options after childbirth.

The seminar served as a safe and supportive space for participants to gain practical knowledge, ask questions, and share experiences that are essential for navigating parenthood. In addition to the educational sessions, SAGWAN distributed essential goods to the participants, providing practical support to young mothers and their families.

Also present during the activity was University President Dr. Redentor Palencia. Through initiatives like this, the University and its partners continue to strengthen community engagement and advocate for maternal and child health in contribution to more empowered and resilient families in the Samar Island.
