SSU ranks 2nd in EV, 8th in PH, 361st worldwide in 2025 UI GreenMetric

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) once again climbed the world’s sustainability leaderboard in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, placing 8th nationally and 361st globally with a reported total score of 7,447.5. The latest showing represents an overall score improvement from the previous year and stronger performance across campus infrastructure, sustainability teaching and research, and institutional water and waste management systems.

SSU’s gains this year were especially notable in three UI GreenMetric categories: Education & Research (leadership in sustainability teaching), Infrastructure (campus development and green spaces), and Waste & Water (improved institutional environmental management). The UI GreenMetric ranking evaluates universities on six main categories: Setting & Infrastructure; Energy & Climate Change; Waste; Water; Transportation; and Education & Research.

The 2025 round of UI GreenMetric assessed 1,745 institutions across 105 countries, underscoring the growing global field SSU is measured against. The UI GreenMetric’s methodology combines quantitative indicators and institutional policies and programs to produce its composite score;

With these results, SSU remains among the Philippines’ leading sustainable universities and is positioned to continue building on the improvements identified in the ranking.
