Nobody Left Behind: SSU Strengthens Gender Sensitivity, Good Governance Among Personnel


CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Ending the year strong, the Samar State University – Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) administered a Gender Sensitivity Training, Human Rights, and Good Governance Seminar for SSU Personnel today, December 5, 2025 at the Convention Center, SSU Main Campus, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Setting the tone for a productive day-long session, University President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia highlighted the commitment of the University in maintaining a space where all is valued and protected.
“At SSU, we ensure inclusivity by [leveraging] on the idea that ‘nobody is left behind’. We want to make everyone feel valued, empowered, and of course protected and safe. This is our testimony of good governance,” President Palencia echoed.
SAGWAN Director Charmaine R. Quiña also provided a rationale and the relevance of a regular gender sensitivity training for the University’s workforce and student body.
University personnel from across all colleges, external campuses, and units of the University took part in the training. The day-long training sessions were facilitated by Mr. Leo Christian V. Lauzon of the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) National Gender and Development Resource Program (NGRP) Batch 6. Mr. Lauzon’s sessions delved into basic gender and development (GAD) concepts, SOGIESC, gender fair language, human rights, and good governance.
The sessions are concluded with an open forum and awarding of certificates to the attendees.
