SSU ICPEP.SE wins ₱100k seed fund for transport innovation at YES Awards 2025


CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines— The Institute of Computer Engineers of the Philippines – Student Edition (ICpEP.SE) of Samar State University (SSU) scored a major victory at the Youth Empowered Samar (YES) Awards 2025, securing a ₱100,000 seed fund after being recognized as Outstanding College / Community Youth Organization Project Proposal awardee.
SSU ICPEP.SE was named one of the five winners to receive the funding support, propelling their project proposal, “RideSafe: Smart Tricycle Tracker with Incident Reporting System,” toward development and potential community rollout. The initiative seeks to improve transport safety through real-time monitoring and rapid incident reporting.
The winning team is composed of Maui Jane Cale, Sean Mark Jaromay, Cedric Castillo Saises, Fridel Mark Carcillar, and Jake Lere Boyles, whose dedication and innovation shone throughout the competition.
Their achievement followed an intensive three-day process from the Bootcamp on November 26, to the Final Screening on November 27, and culminating in their triumphant moment at the Awarding Ceremony on November 28, where they proudly accepted the ₱100,000 grant.
The winning team is currently advised by College of Engineering faculty member, Engr. Maricris Ediza.
Organized by the Samar Provincial Youth Development Office, the YES Awards celebrates youth-led solutions that address community needs and drive meaningful impact.
