CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines— Samar State University’s (SSU) College of Engineering (CoEng) sent off a total of 57 aspiring civil engineers today, May 16, 2025, during the Civil Engineering (CE) Hard Hatting and Pinning Ceremony, held at the SSU Convention Center, Catbalogan City. With the theme, “Building Beyond Limits,” the college bestowed hard hats and pins to the CE students as they transition from classroom to the professional construction site for their internship.
Dr. Felisa E. Gomba, SSU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, delivered a welcome remark and emphasized the important role of civil engineers not only in delivering technical skills, but also in serving the communities, and protecting lives. Moreover, in his inspirational message, SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, urged the students to embody responsibility and accountability as they join the professional field.
“Be the hope the world needs for the world’s future lies in your hands. You have the power to make a difference because you are the next Civil Engineers—a pool of rich human resource who will design, construct, and maintain public works. Please ensure that the future is bright, progressive, inclusive, and sustainable.”
The internship qualifiers each received their individual hard hats and pins following the acceptance of Dr. Gil Amoyan, CoEng’s Director of Student Internship Program. The 57 aspirants, having affirmed their on-the-job training (OJT) pledge and commitment today, are now set to embark on their respective internships in the upcoming semester.
The CoEng CE faculty, along with the families of the CE students, joined this momentous event today—offering a promising glimpse into these aspirants’ future contributions to the field of civil engineering.
