CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Samar State University (SSU) and the Argotek Positioning Solutions, Inc. (APSI) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on March 4, 2025 at the SSU Main Campus, Catbalogan City, Samar. This new partnership aims to advance surveying, and environmental and engineering practices for both the academe and the industry.
The formal agreement was signed by SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia and APSI Managing Director Engr. Raymond T. Rama. Also present during the formal signing was Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, Vice President for Research and Extension Services, Dr. Gina U. Españo, Vice President for Student Affairs and Services, Dr. Edelyn O. Echapare, Director for SSU Environmental Sustainability Research and Development Center, and Mr. Jacob Dequito, faculty member of SSU College of Education.
Through this partnership, APSI seeks to provide industry input in enhancing the educational programs and research endeavors of SSU, share state-of-the-art equipment with the students, faculty, and researchers of the university, and donate modern environmental and engineering equipment such as GNSS receivers, total stations, and software to be used by the university for research and academic purposes.
In return, SSU shall provide faculty, students, and researchers for industry immersion at APSI; support the research initiatives of the company; share state-of-the-art equipment available in the university; establish specialized training programs and certifications in advanced environmental and engineering techniques; develop academic courses in partnership with APSI focusing on practical applications and emerging trends in environmental and engineering; and offer fellowship and training grants to outstanding students and faculty participating in collaborative projects with APSI.
This joint venture between SSU and APSI enables an interdependent support of each other’s capabilities and resources in jointly developing, promoting, implementing, and sustaining initiatives, which will help upgrade the practice of the environmental and engineering profession to support the needs of private companies, government, and the general public.
