CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – The Samar State University’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) convened its Strategic Meeting for Fiscal Year 2025 today, January 23, at the SSU Convention Center, Catbalogan City. The event gathered key university officials, including GAD Coordinators and SAGWAN Director Charmain R. Quiña, to assess and plan gender and development initiatives.
SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia opened the meeting with a welcome remarks, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and gender sensitivity within the university’s operations.
“The gender and development are integrated in the whole operations of the university, and [as an institution] we need to have a strong sense of sensitivity towards gender and development wherein we shall always be inclusive. And I am so happy that under the leadership of Director Charmaine Quiña that SAGWAN has been endorsed by the PCW (Philippine Commission on Women),” Dr. Palencia stated.
The meeting’s agenda included a comprehensive review of SAGWAN’s Year-end Accomplishment Report and a detailed discussion on the 2025 Gender and Development (GAD) activities, highlighting the upcoming Women’s Month celebrations. The attendees also evaluated SSU’s gender mainstreaming initiatives and GAD Focal Point System (GFPS) functionality, along with GAD best practices from other agencies, which serve as basis for drafting SAGWAN’s GAD six-year strategic plan.
SAGWAN Director Charmaine R. Quiña expressed her gratitude for the collaborative efforts and reiterated the organization’s commitment to advancing gender and development at SSU.
