SAGWAN ‘Love Drive’ brings joy to Catbalogan’s island community

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—The spirit of giving and community was in full bloom as the Samar State University’s Advocacy on Gender and Women Advancement for National Development (SAGWAN) successfully led a Love Drive on December 28, 2024, at Basiao Elementary School, Brgy. Basiao, one of the island barangays of Catbalogan City.

The Love Drive is part of SAGWAN’s outreach initiatives, aimed at spreading holiday cheer and providing essential support to the elementary learners of Basiao Elementary School. The beneficiaries received clothing, shoes, and meals, bringing smiles to their faces and fostering a sense of community and care.

“This Love Drive is not just about the gifts; it’s about making these children feel valued and supported. At SAGWAN, we believe in uplifting communities and fostering a culture of kindness and generosity,” Director Quiña shared. “

Parents and teachers from the school also expressed their gratitude, recognizing the positive impact of the initiative on the learners.

Led by SAGWAN Director Ms. Charmaine R. Quiña, alongside GAD Coordinators Dr. Nathalie Ann A. Acosta and Asst. Prof. Mary Jane B. Cinco and SAGWAN Faculty Researcher Mr. Jasper D. Alegro, the event touched the lives of young learners and their families. SAGWAN’s Love Drive is a testament to the power of compassion and unity in making a difference in local communities.
