CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Samar State University (SSU), through the Research Center for Culture and Social Issues (RCCSI), led a back-to-back capacity-building initiative aimed at enhancing faculty research development for 2025 research and extension (R&E) funding.
The first phase of the initiative was dubbed as, “Research Proposal Bootcamp: From Concept to Draft,” held on November 13-15, 2024 at the SSU Convention Center, Catbalogan City. The seminar saw active participation from 18 SSU faculty members, and featured Mr. John M. Christopher B. Mesana of the National University of Manila as the resource speaker. Mr. Mesana delivered dynamic sessions that guided participants through the process of conceptualizing and drafting effective research proposals.
Following the bootcamp, the RCCSI conducted its annual “In-House Review (IHR) for Research & Extension Proposals” on November 18-19, 2024, at the RIC Audio-Visual Center, SSU. This review session aimed to evaluate research and extension proposals for institutional funding in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2025.
The IHR successfully reviewed a total of 15 proposals. The review process was enriched by the insights of expert evaluators, including Prof. Jeffry V. Ocay from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Ormoc Campus, SSU Executive Director for Research Prof. Sherrie Ann C. Labid, and RCCSI Director Maria Rubi M. Parrocho.
These research initiatives highlight RCCSI’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture in contribution to the university’s vision. With such dedicated efforts, SSU, through its research centers, continues to strengthen its role as a leading institution in research and community development in the region.
