CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — Samar State University (SSU) garnered remarkable impressions in a recently concluded three-day accreditation visit by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP), held from November 20 to 22, 2024, via Zoom. The visit evaluated various academic programs, including BS in Computer Engineering, BS in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Elementary Education, and BS in Fisheries Technology.
“Your initiatives, tireless efforts, and willingness to extend beyond what is expected will undoubtedly form the cornerstone of your institution’s future achievements,” Dr. Forbes commended.
During the Exit Conference & Closing Program on November 22 (24), Dr. Jaime M. Forbes, the visit’s overall coordinator, shared the accreditors’ general impressions where he highlighted the university’s strengths and areas of improvement. He noted that SSU’s strengths lie in its “S-M-A-R-P-O-C,” which stands for the well-developed and aligned Strategic planning of the university, Motivated faculty committed to professional growth and excellence, Accessible library resources integrated with innovative technologies, Research initiatives and outputs that are regularly published in reputable journals, Community engagement that fosters a strong university-community partnership, Outstanding graduate performance, Progressive institutional development marked by consistent broads in academic and operational capacities, and Collaborative efforts shown in the cohesive teamwork among stakeholders.
Dr. Forbes also mentioned the areas where SSU could improve for the next survey, including mechanisms for competency assessments, review sessions, and mentoring and coaching courses to enhance the performance of graduates in licensure examinations, intensification of current graduate tracer study, broaden faculty and students’ participation in internationalization efforts, thorough evaluation of international partnerships, full compliance with all requirements to secure COPC, optimization of resource allocation, promotion of community engagement, cultivation of a quality assurance culture in SSU, and further strengthening of the faculty development program.
The accreditation team was led by Dr. Jaime M. Forbes from Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), who served as the Overall Coordinator. BS in Computer Engineering (3rd Survey, Phase 2) was evaluated by Team Leder Engr. Minerva C. Zoleta from Eulogio “Amang” Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology (EARIST), with Prof. Marivic C. Dizon from Cavite State University (CavSU). Meanwhile, BS in Electrical Engineering (4th Survey, Phase 2) was examined by Team Leader Engr. Rhoderick M. Favorito from Don Honorio Ventura State University (DHVSU), with Engr. Rosana C. Lat from Batangas State University (BatSU). Moreover, Bachelor of Elementary Education (3rd Survey, Phase 2) was evaluated by Team Leader Dr. Divinagracia M. De Guzman from Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) with Dr. Elizabeth H. Alonzo from Isabela State University (ISU). Finally, BS in Fisheries Technology (3rd Survey, Phase 2) was surveyed by Team Leader Dr. Grace B. Brizuela from Bicol University (BU) with Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza from Sorsogon State University (SorSU).
On the last day, SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia led a Pledge of Commitment underscoring the university’s dedication to high standards and continuous improvement.
