New opportunities open for SSU engineering studes thru SSU-DEFAS Society of Engineers Inc. partnership

CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines – Samar State University (SSU) took a significant step forward in supporting its engineering students through a new partnership with the DEFAS Society of Engineers, Inc. SSU entered into a formal partnership with the organization today through a signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at the SSU Convention Center, Catbalogan City, Samar. This linkage seeks to establish a student scholarship program to deserving and qualified engineering students of the University.

SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia and DEFAS Society of Engineers, Inc. President Dr. Daniel D. Dasig Jr. led the signing of the contract. Also in attendance were SSU Vice President for Student Affairs and Services Dr. Gina U. Españo, Director for SSU Alumni Relations and Placement Services Engr. Maricris M. Ediza, and DEFAS Society of Engineers, Inc. members Engr. Joan E. Maghacot and Engr. Joshua M. Manaligod.

The scholarship program will be implemented starting in Academic Year (AY) 2024-2025. The organization will conduct a screening procedure to select at least five (5) deserving and qualified engineering students of SSU-Main Campus. Interested applicants must have passed the entrance examination administered by the SSU Office of Student Affairs Services (OSAS) – Student Welfare Development Services (SWDS), must be of good moral character, and must carry a regular course load prescribed in their program’s curriculum. The qualified grantees will receive an amount of five thousand pesos (Php 5,000.00) subsidy/grant every semester.

The DEFAS Society of Engineers, Inc. is a SEC-registered professional alumni organization of engineers based in the Philippines.

This partnership is expected to provide substantial support to SSU engineering students, helping them achieve their academic goals and contribute to the engineering profession.
