CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines — The local government unit (LGU) of Catbalogan City, in collaboration with Samar State University (SSU), is leading a four-day storytelling workshop dubbed as “Usa Ka Adlaw: Basics of Storytelling,” from May 1-4, 2024 at SSU, Catbalogan City, Samar.
The training-workshop which covers the basic concepts of storytelling aims to enhance and showcase the listening, thinking, and storytelling skills of the participants necessary for practical applications of various sectors, including daycare workers, early childhood care and development (ECCD) service providers, student leaders, and advocates.
Participated by a total of 85 trainees, the training is manned by Resource Speakers: Director of the University Publications Elma C. Sultan, Public Information Officer Arianne Rose T. Salcedo, and Faculty Writer Hanna Joyce B. Macawili.
Gracing the opening program were Hon. Stephanie Uy-Tan, Catbalogan City Councilor and Committee Chair on Women, Children and Family, who gave a message on the importance of storytelling and its valuable role in preserving Catbalogan’s culture and Mr. Ador Hurtado, Information Officer of the Catbalogan City Tourism, Culture, Arts and Information Office, who provided a rationale of the four-day activity during the opening ceremonies.
The training is set to continue through lectures and mentorship sessions in preparation for the storytelling recital to be held during the Closing Ceremony on May 4.
