BRUNEI DARUSSALAM ─ President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso was among the regional and local affiliates selected by the Universiti Technologi Brunei (UTB) as Keynote Speaker in the UTB Science, Technology and Engineering (UTB-STE) Connect 2023: Research and Applications for a Better World on October 23-25 (23) at the International Convention Centre, Brunei Darussalam.
Under the theme “Rethinking Education Amidst Global Uncertainties, Dr. Cardoso, specifically, positioned her discussion under Strand 2: Rethinking Higher Education Initiatives which outlines current and upcoming educational initiatives and highlights the difficulties and complexities in subjects like academia, research, and community service, among others while emphasizing programs that accommodate and respond to institutional and societal expectations.
With a presentation titled “Shaping Tomorrow’s Academia: The Nexus of Higher Education, Industry 4.0, SDGs, and the VUCA World,” Dr. Cardoso provided scaffolding of her talk through a backdrop of the new era, IR 4.0, and SGDs. She narrated Samar State University’s experience as a Higher Education Institution in the technological age.
Capsulized in a framework, Dr. Cardoso shared SSU’s strategy in achieving its goals and the world’s sustainable development goals and she calls it the PIVOT-G, which is, Pool of Talents, Innovation, Visionary or Good Governance, Online and Digital Transformation, Transnational or Global Mindset, and Global and Local Convergence/Partnership.
In front of an audience of university presidents and official representatives, Dr. Cardoso ended her sharing with a commitment to live by SSU’s mantra─ to innovate, build, and serve.
