CATBALOGAN CITY─ Maintaining Samar State University’s Top 1 spot under the Fourth Industrial Revolution category in the World’s Universities with Real Impact, now the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) is a certified Computer Engineer─Engr. Raven C. Tabiongan.
This year’s winning entry is Engr. Tabiongan’s lead project titled “3D Visualization of Citywide Geohazard Mapping and Simulation of What-if Scenarios using Geospatial Research and Data Analytics”. The project utilizes state-of-the-art geospatial data analytics and 3D visualization techniques as it pioneers a comprehensive citywide geohazard mapping and simulation system wherein the resulting maps will have a scenario-based comprehensive plan contributing to risk reduction and creating resilient communities.
A scopus-index published author of researches titled “Bilateral Communication Device for Deaf-Mute and Normal People” and “Chatbox: Two-Way Schemed Communication Device for Speech and Hearing Impairment”, Engr. Tabiongan remains unstoppable in his pursuit of knowledge and relevant researches. He was granted funding from external sources including the NEDA Innovation Grants, DOST-PCIEERD GODDESS Program, Catbalogan City LGU Funding, DOST-TECHNiCOM TAPI Program, DOST-NRCP NSTEP Program, Commission on Higher Education, and DOST-PCAARRD for various 2022-2024 projects.
Engr. Tabiongan revealed that this 2023 WURI winning entry is a team effort with his 3D-CLUP Team including Engr. Merry Chris Margarico, Engr. Jan Floro Bautista, and Engr. Stephanie Tan. It is also a Php490K project funded by the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) through the National Research Council of the Philippines Science and Technology Experts’ Pool (NSTEP) Program.
With this latest milestone in his career, Engr. Tabiongan commits to innovate along performance, design, development, functional and system integration, and data visualization (UI/UX/CX) as he leads SSU’s Samar Island GIS and Data Analytics Center as its Director.
