CATBALOGAN CITY─ Behind Samar State University’s grand winning as Rank 1 under the Fourth Industrial Revolution category in the 2022 World’s Universities with Real Impact is an accomplished faculty of the College of Engineering, Engr. Jon Alvin L. Macariola.
His brainchild, the “Smart Edubox─A Wireless Sensor Based Educational Service Delivery” project, which brought SSU to the Top 1 spot is a pioneering solution to address the connectivity gaps faced by students in Samar Province during the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The innovative offline data transmission system enabled students to seamlessly submit their assignments to the university remotely, thereby mitigating health risks associated with physical interactions.
Early on, the project gained recognition at the Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) 2019, clinching the Likha Award for Outstanding Creative Research Category First Prize, making it a representative of Eastern Visayas for the National Invention Contest and Exhibit (NICE) in 2022.
Engr. Macariola served as Program Chair of Computer Engineering in 2018 and Associate Dean of the College of Engineering in 2019.
