CATBALOGAN CITY─In a television interview by PTV Philippines aired on August 10 (23), Samar State University (SSU) President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso provided details of the University’s latest milestone─its Top 1 spot for the second time in the World’s Universities with Real Impact, now the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) along Industrial Revolution category.
Interviewed by Mr. Aljo Bendejo, Dr. Cardoso highlighted this year’s winning entry titled “3D Visualization of Citywide Geohazard Mapping and Simulation of What-if Scenarios using Geospatial Research and Data Analytics” which pioneers a comprehensive citywide geohazard mapping and simulation system wherein the resulting maps will have a scenario-based comprehensive plan contributing to risk reduction and creating resilient communities. She also mentioned last year’s WURI Rank 1 project “Smart Edubox─A Wireless Sensor Based Educational Service Delivery”.
Asked “Ano ang maipapayo niyo sa kapwa school na nais ding makilala ang kanilang inobasyon at quality education (What can you advise to other schools that aspire to have their innovation and quality education known), Dr. Cardoso stated “Patuloy lang po ang laban (Just keep going)…Huwag mapagod (Don’t get tired)… Attract and retain talents, Develop the culture of innovation, and Good governance. Be courageous…Learn something from the process…Submit to all lenses of quality assurance…Embrace the challenges because all these is for the noble purpose of serving our students.”
Also interviewed was the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. J. Prospero “Popoy” E. De Vera, III who proudly said “Magagaling ang Philippine Universities (The Philippine Universities are good)…Visit our Universities and you’ll be amazed on how good they are.”
“Di ka na kailang pumunta sa Maynila para mag-aral. Pwede kang mag-aral sa Samar State University at de kalidad na edukasyon ang iyong makukuha (You don’t need to come to Manila to study. You can study at Samar State University and get quality education),” he added.
