Red Cross Youth-SSU Council, CoEd conduct earthquake drill

CATBALOGAN CITY – To familiarize escape routes and reinforce proper actions during calamities, the Samar State University – Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (SSU-DDRMO) tapped the Red Cross Youth-SSU Council and the College of Education to conduct an Earthquake Drill on February 6 (23).

CoEd faculty and personnel evacuated their classrooms and headed to an open space while “ducking, covering, and holding”.

Meanwhile, the Red Cross Youth-SSU Council performed simulations of helping victims of the disaster and providing care and comfort to ill and injured service members through first aid.

According to the SSU-DRRM Officer Mr. Gilbey Rosales, local drills and simulative exercises are necessary to reduce the dangers of serious injury or loss of life from an earthquake.

“Frequent practice of these drills and exercises would eventually turn these actions into automatic reflexes that would manifest during an actual calamity”, he stated.
