Pursuant to its thrust on providing technical assistance to barangay-based institutions, the Samar State University – Samar Island Center for Good and Local Governance (SSU-SICGLG) spearheaded the conduct of Barangay Development Planning for 2023-2025 of 57 barangays in Catbalogan City on December 10-12 (1st batch), 12-14 (2nd batch), and 19-21, 2022 (3rd batch) at the MGrand Royale Resort and New Maqueda Hotel, Catbalogan City.
The initiative was realized upon the request of the City Government of Catbalogan to help its barangays in crafting their barangay development plan for the period 2023-2026, with the technical expertise of the resource persons and facilitators from Samar State University. 8-10 representatives from each barangay were requested to attend. The planning session was later on facilitated by the City Planning and Development Office as well as the directors of the different research and extension centers of the university for the alignment of plans to international, national and local development agenda.
The barangay development plan (BDP) is a comprehensive multi-sectoral development plan generated through an inclusive and participatory approach and serves as an official document specifying policy options, programs, projects and activities((PPAs) aligned to the achievement of the barangay’s developmental goals and objectives.
The BDP is a documentary requirement for the barangays before their PPAs get funded.
