Paranas, Samar – Municipal mayor Eunice U. Babalcon expressed her gratitude towards Samar State University for conducting timely and relevant training for her constituents. This was during the “Basic Financial Literacy and Management Course: How to Cope Financial Stress and the Positive Effects of Delayed Gratification” held last November 17-18, 2022. She was looking forward to more training organized by academes like SSU to help the locals in their pursuit on money matters.
“I am glad that SSU chose Paranas as the benefactor of its extension program, surely my fellow Paranasnon will learned from this. Paranas should not stick on government-organized programs but to open doors to something like this”, she said.
The first resource speaker, was Dr. Daniel G. Amida Jr., the department head of the business Entrepreneurship and Management Department of EVSU Tanauan Campus. His talked focus on two important points, Individual level Financial Literacy and Business level financial literacy. Investments, Needs Vs. Wants, and Passive and Active income were among the highlights of this lecture in combating financial distress.
Dir. Maria Rubi M. Parrocho of the Research Center for Culture and Social Issues and the lead proponent of this extension program was the second speaker. She commenced her talk by asking the participants, “Are you financially distressed?” Participants individually answered the reasons why they are financially distressed and the factors affecting it. She continued her presentation by discussing how the internal and external environment affects our finances. She proceeded with her talk on the concepts of delayed gratification and its benefits.
Fifty (50) participants from the MSMEs benefited from this program and assured the organizers that they will apply their what they have learned to themselves and to their businesses. The 2-day course ended with the awarding ceremony as a certification that they have completed it.
