“Bugsok” unveiled as SSU’s official mascot

CATBALOGAN CITY- On the 18th Charter Day of Samar State University, the official mascot, the physical form of the school’s spirit was unveiled as “BUGSOK”, the Waray term for Philippine Deer – an embodiment of the University’s personality and characteristic of being an innovator, builder, and servant.

According to the SSU Official Mascot-Technical Working Group (TWG) composed of Chairperson – Mr. Arthur Poblete, Co-Chair – Prof. Jhonil S. Bajado, Members Mr. Francis Abalos, Ms. Mary Ann Broderick, Ms. Lynitte Quenga, Dr. Madelynn Reposo, and Mr. Anecito Sultan, the bugsok mascot will help promote the advocacies, programs, and projects of the university, in consonance with the University mission, vision, goals, and objectives and in the realization of its core values of leadership, excellence discipline and service and living its mantra: we innovate, we build, we serve.

For its first exposure, the female and male deers joined the parade around the city during the kick-off program of the Foundation Day Celebration.

From now on, the ‘bugsok’ will be among the official mascots of the Eastern Visayas State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) alongside Leyte Normal University’s Golden Falcon, Southern Leyte State University’s Kingfisher, and Visayas State University’s Phytons.
