SSU leads FGDs for SDG Goals 3, 5


TACLOBAN CITY─ Samar State University (SSU) President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, being the Chairperson of the Regional Development Council of the Eastern Visayas-Social Development Committee (RDC VIII-SDC) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Technical Working Group (TWG) for Social Sector spearheaded the conduct of the Focus Group Discussions (FDGs) for SDG Goals 3 (Health and Well-Being) and 5 (Gender Equality) on May 11 (22) at the Summit Hotel Tacloban, Marasbaras, Tacloban City.

Highlights of the event include the presentation of the updated SDG 3 & 5 indicators with available data for monitoring and identification of gaps and discussion of interventions to close the gaps of Goals 3 & 5.

Attended by the region’s Department of Education, Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Science and Technology, National Economic and Development Authority, Philhealth, Philippine Statistics Authority, State Universities and Colleges, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, all provinces, and Private Sector Representatives, the discussion ended with resolutions that will be recommended by the TWG members to the Regional Development Council as the group ensures that the region attains SDGs along Goals 3 and 5.

SSU and DOH RO 8 hosted the FGDs for SDG Goal 5 & 3, respectively with Dr. Ronal L. Orale, SSU Vice President for Research and Extension Services, as the presiding officer.
