CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) and Silliman University (SU) hosted the 53rd Federation of Institutions for Marine and Freshwater Sciences (FIMFS) National Convention on April 27-28 (22) via Zoom Conferencing.
Bearing the theme “Resilience amidst the increasing challenges in health and environment”, the convention tackled plenary sessions on key topics such as Trends and Approaches in Biodiversity Conservation and Vulnerability Assessment presented by SU Adjunct Professor Dr. Hilconda P. Calumpong and Miledel Christine C. Quibilan of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute, respectively.
Serving as the keynote speaker of the event was the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Executive Director Dr. Marieta B. Sumagaysay.
Also gracing the event were FIMFS President Dr. Janet S. Estacion, SSU President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, SU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Earl Jude L. Cleope, and the SSU-Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Research and Development (CFARRD) Director Diana Shane Balindo.
The convention ushered forty-one (41) research studies which were all presented during the parallel paper presentations under four (4) different tracks: 1) Trends and Approaches in Biodiversity and Conservation, 2) Socio-Economics and Governance in Aquatic Resource Management, 3) Risks and Resilience in Aquatic Ecosystems, and 4) Innovative Fisheries and Aquaculture.
