PALO, LEYTE – As Chairperson of the Regional Development Council of the Eastern Visayas- Social Development Committee (RDC VIII-SDC) on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Technical Working Group (TWG) for Social Sector, Samar State University (SSU) President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, called for and led a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) for SDG 4 (Quality Education) on April 27 (22).
The discussion which aimed to gather intervention inputs and recommendations to ensure attainment of quality education in the region was hosted by the Department of Education Region 8.
During the FGD, members exchanged ideas on how to bridge the gaps concerning SDG Goal 4 such as the declining trend in enrolment in primary education and low levels of proportion of children who are proficient in “all subjects” category of the National Achievement Test (NAT).
FGDs for SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), still under the chairmanship of Dr. Cardoso, are scheduled to follow which will be hosted by the region’s Department of Health and Samar State University, respectively.
