DOST R&D Usec Guevarra, NRCP Executive Director Sumagaysay visit SSU

CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) welcomed the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Undersecretary for Research and Development Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara and the Executive Director III of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Dr. Marietta B. Sumagaysay on their visit on March 21 (22).

The ‘women powerhouse of DOST’, as what SSU President Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso addressed them, were accompanied by other DOST and NRCP staff and officials.

During their two-day visit, they had a conference regarding the DOST-funded project of Prof. Rene Diocton titled “Establishment of the Eastern Visayas Center for Crustacean Research and Development (EVCCRD)” and consequently monitored the laboratories and hatchery that the project utilizes.

Taking the opportunity of having the NRCP Director and the DOST Undersecretary on Research and Development (R&D) and party, Dr. Cardoso assisted by the Vice President for Research and Extension Services Dr. Ronald L. Orale, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Felisa E. Gomba and Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Gina U. Españo awarded the University Medallion and Certificate of Commendation to them.

In response, Dr. Guevara expressed her delight on the progress of the project in response to the Science for Change Program (S4CP) of DOST created to accelerate STI in the country to keep up with the developments of the present.

“You did not disappoint me,” she stated.

Dr. Cardoso also shared how grateful the University is for the support DOST extended to SSU and hoped for further collaboration.

“DOST has been so generous to SSU when it comes to funding. SSU looks forward to a continued collaboration and partnership with the DOST and other public and private agencies in implementing its programs and contribute to the attainment of the sustainable development goals of the United Nation and the AMBISYON NATIN 2040,” she stated.
