Dr. Lanzarote is “The GAD Mother”

CATBALOGAN CITY─ Serving as mother to five (5) siblings and to her five (5) children and the GAD mother of Samar State University is the Director for Gender and Development, Dr. Marlyn G. Lanzarrote.

Dr. Lanzarrote, as Ms. Jiza, her only daughter, described her is a house-school person. She goes home immediately after work to take care of the house and its members. She was also described as giving and caring being the eldest of the siblings and the father and mother to her children since her other half, Sir Wilfredo, returned to His maker.

Born in Palompon, Leyte, this Bisaya turned Waray-waray empowered woman has been serving the University as Director of Publications in 2007 and GAD Director since 2011. And among the GAD programs implemented under her term include the Establishment of Child Support GAD Program, Provision for a Lactating Room for breastfeeding mothers, Establishment of free-way access (i.e. ramps & lifts) for PWDs, Senior Citizens, and Pregnant Women, and Provision for Counseling Room and Gender-Neutral Restrooms.

“She is considerate, understanding, and motherly,” her former student turned GAD Coordinator testified.

As a woman who nourishes others, she too nourishes herself through a regular Zumba workout.

Dr. Lanzarrote’s motherly role extends from her home to her work place, and surely even to her workout space.
