STCBF mission continues as DOST-PCAARRD approves P5M funding

CATBALOGAN CITY – Another Science and Technology Community Based Farm (STCBF) project of Samar State University (SSU) will continue to empower farmers in the community as approved by the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) titled “Science and Technology Community Based Farm (STCBF) on The Production of Sweetpotato Flour as Substitute for Wheat Flour”.

Said project was first presented to the council by the Technology Transfer and Promotion Division (TTPD) Director Noel A. Catibog and endorsed for approval by the Director’s Council. Now, it will be given a budget of P5 Million.

Dr. Marife M. Lacaba, STCBF project leader, is grateful for the extension given to the project as she reiterates its objectives.

“The project aims to enhance and sustain the sweet potato production for processing of sweet potato flour as wheat flour substitute through S&T interventions,” she stated.

Collaborating with SSU-STCBF are the Local Government Unit- Basey (LGU-BASEY), DOST-Samar and Region 8, Department of Agriculture (DA)- Samar, DA-Samar PhilRootcrops, TAU, and Balante Women’s and Farmers’ Association.

Because of the current crisis in Russia, there could be a reduction on the international wheat supply and its price in the Philippines might increase. Given the situation, the project is instrumental in diversifying wheat source and develop sweetpotato flour as its alternative.
