SSU-STCBF distributes “food for calamity” to Sogod, Southern Leyte

SOGOD, SOUTHERN LEYTE─ Greatly affected by the Typhoon Odette onslaught, 95 residents of Brgy. Consolacion, Sogod, Southern Leyte saw a ray of hope when they received sweet potato tops and tubers named as “food for calamity” during the visit of the Science and Technology Community-Based Farm (STCBF) on Sweet Potato Production team on December 22 (21).

The team and farmer-beneficiaries extended their help to the residents of Sogod who are under a state of calamity because of the massive destruction left by the typhoon.

An information drive regarding  on the scientific ways of preparing the land and cleaning the planting materials for sweet potato planting was also conducted by the team prior to the distribution of the sweet potato relief.

The STCBF is a project implemented by Samar State University and funded by the Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) aiming to promote and utilize sweet potato commodity for economic relief.
