CATBALOGAN CITY– Samar State University (SSU) coveted for the third time a home run for the Alfredo M. Yao Intellectual Property (AMY-IP) Award by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry on November 5 (21).

Since 2016, SSU consistently qualifies to pitch in the final judging. And this year 2021, SSU College of Engineering student─ Allean Vince Chua’s innovation titled: Sensing Putrefy Occurrence in Leftover Foods (SPOIL) was hailed as the overall champion in the collegiate category of the prestigious award following the same victory for SSU in 2016 and 2019.

SPOIL detects if the food has gone bad using algorithms. It has also a mobile application with warning and data features relative to food spoilage.
