CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) extentionists in partnership with Catbalogan City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) conducted a Training on Mental Health and Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) for Women Leaders and Change Agent on August 12-13 (21) at Villa Josefa Hall, Brgy. Ubanon, Catbalogan City, Samar.
Forty-four (44) women participants from the different barangays in Catbalogan City attended the two-day event and were taught of the Mental Health and Psychological Well-Being, Principles of Psychosocial Support, the Psychological First Aid (PFA), and the Basic Counselling Skills which were tackled by Dr. Mae V. Cañal, Registered Guidance Counselor and Director of the SSU Student Welfare and Development Services (SWDS), during the first day.
Same enthusiasm was shown by the women participants as Ms. Junelle R. Guerra, Psychologist and SSU’s Training Coordinator, tapped on the topics on How to Handle People Showing Elevated Symptoms, and Practicing Self-Care.
“The training primarily aims to equip you, women leaders, on PFA as you serve your communities. It is our intervention, to come together, even amidst the pandemic, so we could help individuals who need psychosocial first aid,” stated by Mrs. Nida R. Aroza, CSWD Officer, in her Opening Remarks.
PFA is a temporary aid which may be applied at homes and in communities to prevent serious mental illnesses which is high and common in this time of pandemic.
