CATBALOGAN CITY – A ceremonial Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signing took place on August 10 (21) among ten State Universities and Colleges and a private Higher Education Institution in Eastern Visayas to officially seal the deal for the 2021 National Conference on Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development.
The event was attended by Dr. Victor C. Cañezo Jr., President of Biliran Province State University (BiPSU), Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan Jr., President of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU), Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, President of Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU), Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, President of Northwest Samar State University (NWSSU), Dr. Norberto C. Olavides, President of Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), Dr. Erwin Vincent G. Alcala, President of Saint Paul School of Professional Studies (SPSPS), Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, President of Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), Dr. Cherry I. Ultra, President of University of the Eastern Philippines (UEP), and Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, President of Visayas State University (VSU).
“This MoA signing is just the beginning of our pursuit of mitigating poverty in Eastern Visayas,” said Dr. Evelyn B. Aguirre, President of Leyte Normal University (LNU), this year’s POVCON Co-Host University during the virtual event.
The PovCon 2021 is set to be staged on October 21-23, 2021 as a platform to showcase research studies along poverty and sustainable development initiatives and as a venue to share successful, remarkable, and best practices of local government units (LGUs) and other government and non-government agencies along implementation of poverty reduction programs.
“As HEIs, we have a great role in nation building and it is our role to develop skilled, productive and flexible citizens by creating, applying, and spreading new ideas and technologies and that is the reason why we are here today. Together, let’s combat poverty,” concluded Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso of Samar State University (SSU), the POVCON Host University since 2016.
