CATBALOGAN CITY – “Your classroom is the preparation of the real life battle, and you will be able to prepare the students through assessment,” Dr. Carlos Magno said, resource speaker on the last day of the University-Wide Annual Faculty Development Training.
On his talk on Assessing Student Learning in a Flexible Learning Environment, Dr. Magno stated that the faculty must be experts in assessing their students by being ‘faithful’ to the Course Learning Outcomes.
He emphasized that in the new normal, there are quadrants in assessing for flexible learning which are combinations of online delivery, face to face, offline delivery, and distance/remote learning.
He also discussed thoroughly the seven (7) principles of assessment, features of Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) assessment, and the technical competencies needed to effectively assess the learners.
“These are the things we must keep in mind as we assess our students but what we really want to achieve now is the continual improvement of our assessment and it is now our role as experts of assessment in the University,” Dr. Magno said.
His talk ended with an Awarding of Certificate presented by Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, University President, who afterwards expressed her gratitude to Dr. Magno.
One of the faculty said she was challenged to focus on how to improve her assessment activities.
“Dr. Magno’s talk made me realize that I must apply and master the principles of assessment. I still have a long way to go to become an expert of this, but I am willing to learn more,” she said.
