SSU faculty re-learns copyright as an adaptive strategy for flexible learning

CATBALOGAN CITY – As part of the University-Wide Annual Faculty Development Training, Samar State University (SSU) faculty members listened to the lecture of Dr. Vivian L. Moya, Director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Development Office (IPTBDO), on Copyrighting during the second-day (August 3,2021) of the weeklong In-House Training.

Dr. Moya reintroduced the importance of copyright in developing resiliency amidst COVID-19 disruption enumerated the steps on how a faculty could file for a copyright based on the approved processes of the University.

Two hundred ten (210) faculty of the University were taught of the economic and moral rights of the faculty and his/her right to be named as the author of the work (paternity right), copyright ownership, how to commercialize an intellectual property, types of plagiarism, copyright issues, penalties of copyright infringement, and how to apply for a copyright notice.

Being awarded as the Top Patent Filer, Dr. Moya encouraged the audience to submit their personal works to IPTBDO for copyright.

“We are so much willing to help you file your copyright,” she stated.

This path seems to be promising as the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) recorded a hundred percent submission of Instructional Materials produced by the faculty from the different disciplines since the pandemic. Thus, the need for these materials to be protected through copyrighting is acknowledged by the University as it moves along the trends of global higher education landscape in the new normal.
