CATBALOGAN CITY – Each student of Samar State University (SSU) with their family will be receiving 4 sets of University-designed face masks and face shields following its Turn-Over Ceremony on March 31 (21) at the SSU Convention Center spearheaded by the Office of the Student Affairs and Services led by its Vice President, Engr. Ma. Lourdes P. Amante.

26,750 face masks and 33,800 face shields were procured by the University to make sure every student and their family members could be supplied.

According to the University President, Dr. Marilyn D. Cardoso, the University followed the technical specifications defining the minimum requirements for face masks as approved by the Department of Science and Technology.

She also said during the event that this 1.3 M University-funded project is in line with the University’s SMARTER framework as a means to help the community.

Late last year and early this year, SSU designed and produced face shields funded by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The 352,740 Covid Project was locally produced in the University’s Fabrication Laboratory and thereafter, a total of 7,401 face shields were distributed to the students of the University.

“These endeavors attain Goal 1 of the SSU Resilience and Business Continuity Strategic Plan amid COVID-19 Pandemic, the SMARTER Way which is to make safety, health, and well-being of SSU personnel, students, and other stakeholders as top priority,” Dr. Cardoso stated.

In the turn-over ceremony, the student-representatives received their face masks and face shields.

Mr. Jojie Ocenar, University Student Council (USC) President, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the students of the University for greatly prioritizing their safety.

Strategic distribution of the protective equipment will commence in the coming days following safety protocols set by the Inter-Agency Task Force of the Local Government Unit.
