SSU community ‘ducks, covers, and holds’ virtually on the Q1 Earthquake, Fire Safety Drill

CATBALOGAN CITY – More than eighty faculty, students, and administrative personnel of Samar State University (SSU) were on board via Zoom aduring the Webinar on the 1st Quarter Earthquake and Fire Safety Drill organized by the Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council headed by Mr. Juniel B. Tagarino.

The participants did the ‘duck, cover, and hold’ as safety measures to take when earthquake strikes.

March being declared as the Fire Prevention Month, SSU conducted the event to promote family earthquake and fire safety preparedness towards community resilience. It was aired through DYSY 102.9 University Radio and Facebook via live streaming.

Fire Officer II Andrew Torres, Chief of Emergency Medical Services of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) discussed earthquake preparedness and response during the COVID-19 pandemic and emphasized the importance of the webinar as a strategy to continually provide preventive measures in combating earthquake hazards.

The event is one of the strategic goals of SSU in building a resilient university.
