CHED approves “Establishment of SSU Smart Classrooms”

Samar State University unceasingly makes efforts and strategies in prioritizing the needed facilities of its various programs in compliance with the Commission on Higher Education Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (CHED PSGs). As such, the University submitted a project proposal titled “Establishment of SSU Smart Classrooms” in compliance to OCAD Memorandum No. 25, s. 2020 dated October 30, 2020.

The submission of SSU’s proposal was a response to a call by CHED through Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, CHRP, RMT, RN wherein all State Universities and Colleges were directed to submit project proposals for unprogrammed Higher Education Development Funds (HEDF) for 2020 related to priority areas in teacher education, digitization, and flexible learning.

BOR Resolution No. 184, s. 2020 dated December 18, 2020 endorsed this project for CHED funding. Further, a Memorandum of Agreement has also been inked between CHED and the University to seal the deal.
The approved ₱14,922,180.00 grant state-of-the-art digital learning facilities would “…provide students with an interdisciplinary, project-based learning environment that embodies the 21st Century learning that explores how Science, Mathematics, Technology, General Education, and other related fields and the learner fit into this world.”, stated Dr. Florabelle B. Patosa, the project’s leader.

Three (3) Smart Classrooms in the disciplines of Science and Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, and General/Professional Education are envisioned to rise which will cater all the programs of both main and external campuses of the University. Advanced techniques in teaching-learning such as online courses, online exams, digital textbooks, animation, online resources, and activity digitalization among others will be enjoyed by both faculty and students. This new phase of learning will provide students with wider opportunities to be more creative, critical, and industry-connected.

With this project and with SSU being classified as SMART Campus by CHED along its endeavor under RA 11494 or the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act 2, there’s no better way for the University but to soar high in attaining its vision and living its mantra to innovate, build, and serve.
