Digital literacy, capability pushed in SSU amid pandemic

CATBALOGAN CITY – As Samar State University (SSU) transitions from face-to-face interaction to remote teaching and learning, Mr. Nathaniel Mendoza, SSU IT expert, equipped the faculty how to navigate and utilize the Moodle-Based Learning Management System (LMS) during the 2nd day of the In-House Training.

The Eastern Visayas Higher Education Institution Flexible Learning System (EVHEIFLS) Consortium identified two learning modes to cater the students with the ‘stay-at-home education’ set-up, the Full Offline Mode and the Online or Blended Mode.

For the Online or Blended Mode, the University will be adapting the Moodle-based LMS in conformity to the decision made by the consortium.

As defined by the American Library Association (ALA), digital literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies effectively and this is SSU’s goal in each faculty, thus, the weeklong in-house training.

This leap will introduce to the faculty new roads of discovery in the digital world as the faculty are required to utilize their own Moodle classroom.

Enabling the faculty with the basics of digital knowledge will not only fuel them to direct the present crisis but to contribute to the budge of the University in accord to Revolution 4.0 as it marches towards internationalization.

Participants from the different colleges were able to hear the lecture via Zoom.
