Project COVID: SSU puts up chemical-free disinfection chamber

CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University (SSU) installed Project COVID or Chamber to Overcome Virus thru Instant Disinfection on Tuesday, April 7, at the SSU main entrance.

The Chamber is made of chlorine-free solution far safer than a chemical disinfectant.

“The project is designed based on the principle of using an ionized salt solution in the form of mist spraying the whole body to quickly disinfect the body surface. The virus in the body surfaces will be removed after going through the chamber,” Engr. Floretes explained.

Project COVID is an automated system generating mists for disinfection with five mist nozzles to direct the solution to all body points of SSU skeletal force and visitors passing through the Chamber.

There is a minimal consumption of the solution since one mineral container can be consumed by 114-117 persons.

The chemical-free disinfection chamber was successfully designed and produced by Engr. Walvies Mc L. Alcos, Engr. Nikko Ardel P. Floretes, Engr. Francis Jerric J. Candido, Engr. Adrian U. Gadin, Mr. Faustino L. Candido, Mr. Jose D. Vasquez, Dr. Ronald L. Orale, and Engr. Joseph R. Dalemit in a bid to stem the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proponents are looking forward to constructing more chambers to be deployed on certain sites.
