CATBALOGAN CITY – Samar State University’s Research and Innovation Center (SSU-RIC) started the production of innovative face shields last March 27 in the SSU Fabrication Laboratory and they already produced 350 face shields as of today, March 30.
“The frame printed by the 3D machine can be reused while the face shield can be easily removed and replaced with a new one, that is what made it innovative,” said Mr. Juniel Tagarino, Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (DRRMO).
Do-it-yourself (DIY) plastic shield replacements can be made by taking the original shield and tracing it out as a template on a new PVC sheet.
The face shield can also be shared between several people after thorough sanitation.
It is now widely used by the SSU frontliners to strengthen preventive measures.
The University has already started the distribution of the face shields to the City Government of Catbalogan as well as to the Provincial Government of Samar.
The faculty-researchers are aiming to produce 600 face shields; fabrication is still ongoing.
